KEVINMETZINGER.COM started out as a college assignment and has turned into the media giant that everyone has learned to love. It all began in 1999 at my school at Southern Illinois University. One of my classes had a very basic web design section of the class and I haven't stopped learning since. I then took the banner I had created in class and used it as my first banner back when my site was free through Yahoo Geocities.
My focus for the site was on the videos and video projects that my friends and I had made ever since 8th grade through college. I had done multiple screen captures from many of the shorts that we had produced. Ideally I wanted to allow people to view these videos but I was unable due to streaming and dial-up limitations. I created a timeline that was updated frequently, showing all the different videos, films and shorts that we had produced.
Then in the spring of 2002, after living in LA for almost a year, I was introduced to ODDTODD.COM. A very funny site that featured Flash Animation shorts called "Unemployed". These were hilarious and I realized that with the right program and the right amount of time, I could make Flash cartoons of my own, and I had quite the story to tell. After acquiring Flash 5, I spent the next month learning enough about the program to make my first short, "Kev's LA Story". And with the help of Michael Holt and Mike Matusek, I was able to put an original track on the cartoon as well. I've later gone on to produce LA Story 2-6, including "What a wonderful World", "Profile of a Man", "The F-Bomb", "Random Thoughts", "The Masterchief Series", and "MySpace".
After learing Flash and producing the first 2 cartoons, I switched my focus away from the videos and towards the cartoons, which people liked a lot more. I then started spreading the word about my site, which at this point I had to purchase more space and the URL of www.11-11-productions.com. My co-workers at Miss Universe really enjoyed "LA Story 3", which featured my work on the Pageants. Then a year later, my site grew more popular with my new co-workers at Extreme Makeover Home Edition. I then swapped links with Odd Todd and the summer of 2004 had a record breaking 300 hits in the month of August alone, average amount before was around 30. Around this time I also began my fan e-mailing list, which gives updates on new cartoon and features on my site.
After a lot of comments about my URL being too difficult to remember, I purchased the current URL of kevinmetzinger.com. And I have expanded my site beyond the cartoons to include Flash games, TV shows I had appearances in, "Naturally Stoned", TV promos I had written, "Wrongfully Accused Promo", and awards I had won, International Broadcasting Award - 2001. I have also included links to my IMDB page, all the shows I have worked on and my Myspace page.
